Three Restaurants in Waco, One Family: The Story of George’s on Speight Ave., George’s on Hewitt Drive & Jorge’s Cantina

In Waco, some places feel like they’ve always been there. George’s is one of those places. And when you really look at it, it’s more than just one spot. It’s three Waco restaurants, one family, and nearly a century of doing things the right way.

George’s on Speight Avenue has been a Waco tradition since 1930. What started as a small neighborhood bar grew into one of the most well-known restaurants in Waco, Texas. It’s still the kind of place where the floors have stories, the walls remember faces, and the welcome feels the same every time you walk in.

That same spirit carried things forward and made room to grow right alongside Waco.

George’s on Hewitt Drive opened in 2010, bringing that same experience to a growing part of town. It’s a place where folks come to relax, catch a game, and enjoy a meal that feels familiar from the first visit. Sammy Citrano, along with his son Kyle Citrano and nephew Kevin Chirafis, helped bring that vision to life—carrying on the George’s tradition in a way that still feels like home the moment you walk in.

At the center of it all is the Citrano family. Over the years, they’ve grown with Waco while staying rooted in what matters most. Their philosophy is simple. Serve high-quality food, treat customers right, and take care of the community like it’s family.

Then came Jorge’s Cantina in 2024, adding something new to the Waco restaurant scene.

Jorge’s brings traditional Mexican flavors with a coastal twist, including fresh seafood and lunch options that make it easy to stop in any time of day. You’ll see familiar faces walk through the doors, longtime George’s regulars who feel right at home.

Across all three locations, traditions live on. Big O beers, Baylor game days, birthdays, and after-game meals.

Three restaurants. One family.
